Story from ELA:
Team Red edged a closely fought game last weekend against Team Black in the annual NWLA U19 All Star game at Timperley Lacrosse Club. The game featured some of the best young players in the country from a variety of teams in the North West.
The first quarter saw Team Red take command from the very start. Team Black did not get off to the best start making some unfortunate handling errors which resulted in Team Red building a comfortable lead of 3 goals. Although not the greatest of margins it still left Team Black with much to do to get back in the game.
The second quarter finally saw Team Black build some chemistry and they were able to make a start on recovering their three goal deficit.  Some good movement on the crease from Olly Curtis unlocked the red defence. The momentum looked like it had shifted, until a period of ill-discipline resulted in a number of penalties going against Team Black and allowing Team Red to edge ahead 5-4.
The second half was much tighter. Chances were hard to come by and it meant that both sides had to finish well. With five minutes to go the score was 7-6 to Team Red, which caused Team Black to play much more aggressively to try and recover their goal deficit. This however created much more space for the talented Red attack to work in and a good feed resulted in a 1v1 with keeper Hal Dwobeng and Team Red extending their lead to two goals.
With less than five minutes remaining and Team Red in possession of the ball their offensive unit did an excellent job of running down the clock by possessing the ball under great pressure from the Team Black defence. The pressure from Team Black defence did however draw penalties. Team Black did not concede another goal however the game was in the bag for Team Red and they sealed the victory finishing the game up by two 8-6.
Team Red were deserved winners. They moved the ball well in attack and took their chances when they came. Players of merit in the game included James Pomfret who was top scorer in the game with three goals from midfield. Alex Russell was also extremely effective in attack. Will Baxter also made some crucial saves in the game for Team Red .
Players of merit for Team Black include Grady Fayle who was dominant in defence. Both Danny Matthews and Tim Collins were also dominant at the face-off doing all they could to win most of the possession from the middle throughout the game.
2015 Knights Jack Peacock #7 and Elliott Leonard #9
