I was proud to once again to see how many Knights played in the All Star Game, 21 players from our 2011 and 2013 appeared, unfortunatley Lewis Curtis had already left for Australia and Toby Hawksley picked up an injury
I have attached the link below to the ELA Article on the game, watch out for video highlights on the ELA website.
It was another great one goal game as it was in 2012.
The West All-Stars scored the games first goal thanks to a great individual effort from Tim Collins. Collins also had an excellent game at the face-off X winning 8 from 19 contested and drawing East’s LSM Ben Ready to contain his forward play. East’s second goal came in transition when LSM Will Alsop found Dan Watson open on the crease.
Poynton Lacrosse Club were well represented on the Eastern All-Star team, fresh from their U19 A League victory. Ciaran Johnson and Alex Russell represented their club with distinction and scored the opening two goals to even the game at the end of the first quarter. Q1(2-2) The East piled on the pressure in the second quarter and their hard work paid-off with a great solo effort from Scott Dagnanleach putting the East into the lead. The score line would have been extended further if it were not for Heaton Mersey’s Elliot Hurry who had an excellent game between the pipes for the Western All-Stars making some crucial saves. Q2(2-3) Cameron Parks lead the West’s comeback in the third scoring two great goals. Parks had an excellent game on both sides of the field for the West and was instrumental in his team’s comeback. The West’s Will Hardy also looked impressive coming out of midfield. His size and lightening split dodge drew allot of attention from the East defence and his hard work paid off with the West’s fifth goal.
Rochdale’s Rhys Fallows lead the talented East offence, possessing good size and stick skills, his aggressive play and ability to get open allowed him to finish as the games top scorer with three goals. Fallows scored two of his three in the third to even up the score ahead of the final period. Q3(5-5)
The fourth quarter delivered a nail-biting ending to an enjoyable game with both goalies producing a string of great saves to keep their teams in contention. The stalemate was broken by the West with a goal from Tim Nichol, it was soon followed by a great low-to-low effort from Scott Dagnanleach to equalize the game.
Sheffield’s Will Hardy soon put the West back in the lead with another alley dodge and outside shot. Rhys Fallows rounded off his game with his third and final goal taking the score back to evens.
The winner came from Poynton’s Josh Noel who scored in the dying moments of the game to win it for the East. Q4(8-7) North West Lacrosse Association would like to thank the Refereeing staff, Dom Fitzgerald at McLellan Clothing Ltd for providing the shirts worn by both squads and Timperley Lacrosse Club for hosting the game.
