2013 U19 All-Star Game

was proud to once again to see how many Knights played in the All Star Game, 21 players from our 2011 and 2013 appeared, unfortunatley Lewis Curtis had already left for Australia and Toby Hawksley picked up an injury

I have attached the link below to the ELA Article on the game, watch out for video highlights on the ELA website.

It was another great one goal game as it was in 2012.

The Eastern All-Stars win their second annual U19 All-Star game in another thrilling game at Timperley Lacrosse Club. The two evenly matched teams produced an exciting end-to-end game, and an excellent exhibition of the games up and coming talent.

The West All-Stars scored the games first goal thanks to a great individual effort from Tim Collins. Collins also had an excellent game at the face-off X winning 8 from 19 contested and drawing East’s LSM Ben Ready to contain his forward play. East’s second goal came in transition when LSM Will Alsop found Dan Watson open on the crease.

Poynton Lacrosse Club were well represented on the Eastern All-Star team, fresh from their U19 A League victory. Ciaran Johnson and Alex Russell represented their club with distinction and scored the opening two goals to even the game at the end of the first quarter. Q1(2-2) The East piled on the pressure in the second quarter and their hard work paid-off with a great solo effort from Scott Dagnanleach putting the East into the lead. The score line would have been extended further if it were not for Heaton Mersey’s Elliot Hurry who had an excellent game between the pipes for the Western All-Stars making some crucial saves. Q2(2-3) Cameron Parks lead the West’s comeback in the third scoring two great goals. Parks had an excellent game on both sides of the field for the West and was instrumental in his team’s comeback. The West’s Will Hardy also looked impressive coming out of midfield. His size and lightening split dodge drew allot of attention from the East defence and his hard work paid off with the West’s fifth goal.

Rochdale’s Rhys Fallows lead the talented East offence, possessing good size and stick skills, his aggressive play and ability to get open allowed him to finish as the games top scorer with three goals. Fallows scored two of his three in the third to even up the score ahead of the final period. Q3(5-5)

The fourth quarter delivered a nail-biting ending to an enjoyable game with both goalies producing a string of great saves to keep their teams in contention. The stalemate was broken by the West with a goal from Tim Nichol, it was soon followed by a great low-to-low effort from Scott Dagnanleach to equalize the game.
Sheffield’s Will Hardy soon put the West back in the lead with another alley dodge and outside shot. Rhys Fallows rounded off his game with his third and final goal taking the score back to evens.

The winner came from Poynton’s Josh Noel who scored in the dying moments of the game to win it for the East. Q4(8-7) North West Lacrosse Association would like to thank the Refereeing staff, Dom Fitzgerald at McLellan Clothing Ltd for providing the shirts worn by both squads and Timperley Lacrosse Club for hosting the game.

Knights - Billy Kershaw in MGS Magazine!

KNIGHTS 2015 - Billy Kershaw!

http://mgs.org/for-parents/news/latest/916-english-knight-billy-prepares-for-usa

South Manchester Reporter
September 2013

Local boy Billy Kershaw is preparing for the biggest lacrosse games of his life, as he joins England’s finest schoolboy players as they prepare to take on some of the best American high school teams.

Billy Kershaw (14), who lives in Didsbury and is a student at The Manchester Grammar School, was one of just five attackers selected to join the Elite English Knights team as they train for the next two years to take part in the Bison Brawl and the Gait Cup at Gettysburg University in Philadelphia.

As Billy explained: “Fifty of us took part in the trials with 23 selected to join the team. Competition for a place was tough as we were competing against the best players in the country including some from the American School TASIS, who take their lacrosse really seriously, but I’m delighted to have secured mine and can’t wait to go!”

Billy started playing lacrosse when he was just eight years old after he and his mum visited the Didsbury Festival and saw a leaflet about it.

He has since done his own research, delving deep into the sport’s roots: “I completely immersed myself into the research of my new favourite sport. I found out so many interesting facts; it’s the fastest growing sport in America and was actually originally founded by Native Americans more than 3,000 years ago. I knew I had to be a part of that,” added Billy.

Billy has also earned a place on the England Academy’s U15s team as well as being a longstanding member of Manchester Waconians – the only lacrosse club in the city of Manchester which is now more than 100 years old. As well as preparing for his trip across the Atlantic he is also preparing to play with Lancashire U16s in the hotly anticipated East vs West All Stars where the county takes on Cheshire.

Concluded MGS Director of Sport Mark Walmsley: “I am delighted to see one of our students thrive in a sport that he clearly loves.”

Knights 2015 Squad Announced!

I want to thank everyone that attended the trial last weekend, it isnt easy selecting the final squad, especially with the high standard of play. Remember if selected or not you are still in the best 50 players in the country and should be proud of what you have already achieved in Lacrosse.

This and past Knights teams have played at an Elite level and I hope the players selected are proud of being apart of this program and ready to follow the legacy. This is a very strong and talented team and we will aim to improve the players selected over the next two years.

Knights Try-Outs

Thanks to Handcartmedia.com (Jamie Hardie) for the Banners!

We held the first Knights Lacrosse try outs on Sunday the 8th September, it was attended by 50 of England's brightest Lacrosse talent coming from Manchester, Sheffield and the London area. For past tours the team has been selected by invite only but as the program gets bigger and more popular we want to open up the opportunity to as many players as possible from all over Britain.

It was a very successful day and the sun was shining, the first part of the try out included a
warm up, footwork and sprint tests, moving on to positional and integrated testing and finishing with 3 games.

My brave heart award of the day goes to Nathan Edwards (above), fearless kid with great skills! see me for your free Knights Snap Back cap!

I was proud to see the talent on show and all the players put in so much effort over the 4 hours, the selection of the team will be out soon and the list will be posted on this site!

Thank you to all the players and parents that attended from everyone at Knights.

A big thank you to Simon & Susan Smith, Lynne Harvey-Burnam & Alison Cara and to all the coaches.

A huge thank you to Wilmslow for their hospitality and hosting the event!
